Oxford SupaGrip SafeKerb Ramp | Wheelchair and Pedestrian Access

The Oxford SupaGrip SafeKerb Ramp is a moulded plastic kerb ramp that gives wheelchair users, mobility scooter users and pedestrians a way across a kerb while a footpath is closed for works. It sits on the kerb and the road surface without anchoring in most applications, and is rated by Oxford Plastics for loads up to 350kg.

It is used by traffic management companies, civil contractors, utilities and councils wherever a footpath is taken out of service and pedestrians have to be moved onto a temporary route. Typical work includes trenching across a footpath, kerb and channel repairs, service connections and shopfront works where pedestrian access has to be maintained.

The ramp weighs 10kg, so it is a one person lift, and it stacks flat for transport and storage. The surface carries an integral slip resistant texture in high visibility yellow, with soft flexible black edges that grip the road surface and define the route. Oxford's LowPro edge design lets the ramp sit in place without bolting in most applications, and reduces sliding, noise and damage to asphalt. Bolt down holes are provided at the corners if a site risk assessment calls for the ramp to be fixed. Construction is non-metal and 100% recyclable, and Oxford states the product has been proven from +50°C down to -30°C.

The ramp is directional. One long edge is moulded with the instruction "Secure this edge over Kerb", and that is the edge that goes onto the footpath side. The 1280mm dimension runs along the kerb and sets the width of the pedestrian route, while the 760mm dimension is the run out into the road. It suits kerb heights from 60mm to 160mm and is rated for spans up to 420mm. At a 60mm kerb it sits at a 1:5 gradient, and at a 160mm kerb it sits at 1:3. Deflection under a 350kg centre load is 11mm. Confirm the kerb height and check the kerb and ground are stable before every installation. Inspect the ramp between installations and take any ramp with cracks in the yellow section or visible bending out of service.

On compliance, Oxford Plastics states the SupaGrip meets the UK HAUC Advice Note 2018/01 for footway ramps, and it is designed to be used alongside UK street works codes of practice. Slip resistance has been tested by an independent test house using a Munro pendulum tester with Slider 96, returning low slip potential results in wet and dry conditions across three directions. The ramp is moulded "Kerb Ramp for Pedestrian and Wheelchair use only" and is not rated for vehicles. On Australian sites, note that AS 1742.3 requires a kerb ramp at a pedestrian path of travel to be provided in accordance with AS 1428.1, and the gradients above are steeper than those AS 1428.1 sets for ramps. UAGS makes no AS 1428.1 compliance claim for this product. Where an AS 1428.1 compliant pedestrian path of travel is required, confirm the gradient requirement with the relevant road authority or a competent person before specifying this ramp.

Supplied as one ramp with a 12 month warranty. Footway ramps are normally needed at both sides of a footpath to carriageway transition, so most pedestrian diversions need two. Barriers or cones should be placed either side of the pedestrian route leaving at least 1m of unobstructed space, preferably 1.5m, for wheelchair and scooter users. The black LowPro edges are held on by ten connectors, five along each long edge. The connectors fitted at manufacture are press fit, and the spares are screw fit so a crew can refit one by hand on site. 12 Month Warranty
The Oxford SupaGrip SafeKerb Ramp carries a 12 month warranty from the date of purchase against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. The ramp is manufactured by Oxford Plastics in the United Kingdom and the warranty is provided by the manufacturer or its Australian importer. UAG Services handles claims on your behalf, so you do not need to deal with the manufacturer directly.

The warranty does not cover wear of the slip resistant surface texture from high volumes of foot traffic, which Oxford Plastics identifies as normal wear on a temporary use product. Also excluded is damage from dropping the ramp, lifting or moving it with machinery, use on kerbs outside the 60mm to 160mm range, use over spans greater than 420mm, loading above the 350kg rating, any vehicle loading, and continued use of a ramp showing cracks in the yellow section or visible bending.
