Amber LED beacon with 23 flash patterns, hi/lo intensity and multi-unit sync. 3-bolt permanent mount, 12-24V DC, IP66, SAE J845 Class I. Backed by a 5-year ECCO warranty.

Description

The ECCO 7160A Reflex amber LED beacon is a permanently mounted 360-degree warning beacon for work vehicles and plant. High intensity LEDs work with ECCO's reflector design to produce an SAE J845 Class I warning signal from a housing 165mm in diameter and 99mm high. It suits fleets replacing older rotating or strobe beacons.

There are 23 flash patterns to choose from, covering steady burn, single, double, quad, quint and burst flashes, slow, fast and wave rotate modes, ramp up and down, and random. High and low intensity settings are available, and multiple 7160 beacons can be synchronised on the one vehicle.

The 7160A fixes with a 3-bolt flange, and ECCO also lists it as suiting a 1 inch pipe mount. The mounting hardware is supplied: three M5 x 30mm zinc plated pan head Phillips machine screws with M5 internal tooth lock washers and M5 hex nuts, along with a rubber base gasket and a rubber cable grommet that fits a 9.5mm drilled hole. It is a direct-wired, permanent-mount beacon. The cigarette plug version in the 7160 range is the vacuum magnet model, not this one. For mounting clear of a rack upright or roof bar, it suits the UAGS 175mm Offset Beacon Mounting Bracket.

The beacon has five individual 400mm leads: red (positive), black (negative), yellow (pattern select), blue (sync) and orange (dimming). The ECCO installation instructions can be downloaded from this page and cover the 7160 series, including the vacuum magnet model. It runs on 12-24V DC with a listed draw of 2.0A peak, carries an IP66 rating and is rated for -30°C to +50°C.

ECCO product data lists SAE J845 Class I, ECE R10, CE, CISPR 25 Level 3 and RoHS. These relate to light output and electrical performance as per the supplied product data.

Commonly fitted to traffic control vehicles, civil fleet vehicles, utility vehicles, council maintenance vehicles and plant equipment. Vehicle lighting requirements may vary by vehicle type, registration category, jurisdiction and intended use. Vehicle warning systems support visibility but do not replace a traffic management plan or traffic guidance scheme.

ECCO 7160A Beacon FAQs

Does this beacon come with a cigarette plug?

No. The 7160A is a direct-wired, permanent-mount beacon. In the ECCO 7160 range, the cigarette plug with on/off and pattern switch is only supplied on the vacuum magnet model.

What voltage systems can this beacon be used with?

It operates on 12-24V DC, suiting both 12V and 24V vehicle electrical systems. The ECCO manual lists a 9-32V input range.

How is it wired?

It has five individual 400mm leads. Red is positive, black is negative, yellow is for pattern select, blue is the sync wire and orange is for dimming. ECCO says the beacon should be connected to its own separate, fused power point, with a 5A fuse on the positive and wiring of 18AWG or heavier. Disable the power before wiring, and have the wiring done by a qualified auto electrician.

How do I change the flash pattern?

With the beacon powered through the red and black wires, briefly apply 12-24V positive to the yellow wire (under 1 second) to step to the next pattern. Holding it on for more than 1 second steps back to the previous pattern. A momentary switch on the yellow wire is the usual way to do this. The 23 patterns run in the order listed in the ECCO instructions.

How do I dim the beacon?

Connect the orange wire to the positive supply and the light output is reduced by 50%. A switch can be used to change between high and low intensity.

How does it mount, and what hardware is supplied?

It fixes with a 3-bolt flange base. The three mounting slots sit at 120 degrees on a bolt circle of 149 to 152mm. In the box you get three M5 x 30mm zinc plated pan head Phillips (PH2) machine screws, three M5 internal tooth lock washers, three M5 hex nuts, a rubber base gasket and a rubber cable grommet that fits a 9.5mm drilled hole. The base also has a female 1 inch NPT thread for pipe mounting. It fits the UAGS 175mm Offset Beacon Mounting Bracket.

Can I synchronise more than one beacon?

Yes, on permanent mount 7160 beacons. Connect the blue sync wires together. Each pattern comes in an A and a B phase: beacons set to the same phase (A and A) flash together, and beacons set to opposite phases (A and B) flash alternately. ECCO suggests setting the pattern on each beacon before joining the blue wires, and using the same style of pattern on all units. Wiring should be done by a qualified auto electrician following ECCO's installation instructions.

What certifications are listed for this beacon?

ECCO product data lists SAE J845 Class I, California Title 13, CE, ECE R10, CISPR 25 Level 3 and RoHS. ECE R65 is not listed for the 7160 series. Vehicle lighting requirements may vary by vehicle type, registration category, jurisdiction and intended use.

What warranty does it have?

The 7160A carries a 5-year ECCO manufacturer warranty. Warranty claims are made through UAGS, who will refer them to ECCO where required.
